Marilo Nuñez is an award winning Chilean Canadian playwright, director, dramaturge and scholar. She is a recipient of the Johanna Metcalf Performing Arts Award in Theatre (2022). Recent director and/or dramaturge credits include: Dramaturge-in-Residence at the 2024 Polyphonic Playwright Residency (Rice & Beans Theatre, Vancouver), 2024 Dramaturge-in-Residence at PARC for their Playwright Residency (Sackville, NB), Ice/Berg by Deivan Steele (TMU/Tarragon Theatre Playwright’s Project), New Wave Your Behaviour by Tor Lukasik-Foss (Hamilton, Victoria, Winnipeg Fringes), Understory by Treasa Levasseur & Tor Lukasik-Foss, One Perfect Day by Margarita Valderrama (Caminos Festival/Aluna), and Josephs by Phillip Geller & Pam Logan (Centre for Indigenous Theatre). She teaches playwriting at theatres and universities across the country using the Fornes Method. She was founding Artistic Director of Alameda Theatre Company, a company dedicated to developing the new work of Latinx Canadian playwrights. She has an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Guelph and is currently obtaining her PhD in Theatre & Performance Studies at York University.
