We invite theatre artists to take this survey on equity and diversity in casting practices within the Canadian professional theatre industry. Our goal is to gauge how, or indeed if, hiring practices, especially casting practices, in Canada have changed since June 2020 in response to the broader conversations about anti-Black racism and other forms of discrimination against equity-seeking and historically marginalized artists.  

The preliminary results of this survey will be shared on the https://www.castingcanadiantheatre.ca website once they are complete. We anticipate that more extensive survey analyses will be published in several stages, beginning in the summer of 2025 and continuing through 2026.

The survey begins with some general questions that everyone can answer quickly, including a few about demographics. Then, it has more specific questions tailored for directors, artistic directors, actors, playwrights, designers, technicians, and theatre audiences. It’s designed to gather insights from all corners of the theatre community!
